Quality Assurance Technician

Job Description

The Quality Assurance Technician position is an hourly position. This person’s main responsibilities will be to execute all quality systems within the Bakery. Additionally, this person will be responsible for assisting with the strategic development, auditing, communication, training and corrective action for quality systems such as SQF, HACCP, GMP, FSMA, and SOPs while providing day-to-day QA oversight and ensuring all products shipped are food safe and meet customer expectations.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist with development, management and implementation of company Quality Assurance Programs
  • Oversee the review and maintenance of SQF System
  • Investigate and resolve food safety and quality issues
  • Assist with developing, maintaining and reporting operational information to management
  • Analyze data to measure, assess and improve product quality performance
  • Seek out and develop quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with plant management
  • Mentor and motivate employees
  • Maintain current knowledge of evolving food safety regulations, quality and manufacturing technologies, systems and practices
  • Assist production as needed
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

Required:

  • Direct experience with BRC, SQF and/or HACCP
  • Demonstrated ability manage time and meet deadlines
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Bakery Science, Biology or related degree
  • 2 years minimum in the food industry
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and sanitation processes
  • OSHA experience and training
  • Knowledgeable in Food Safety & Food Defense

Physical requirements

  • Ability to stand constantly
  • Ability to stoop and bend frequently
  • Eye/hand coordination
  • Pushing/pulling up to 600 lbs occasionally
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to work in hot or cold environments

Working conditions

  • 24 hour shift work environment which may include weekends and occasional holidays
  • Environment consists of various temperatures ranging from approximately -10 to 115 degrees
  • Working around moving mechanical parts and moving machinery
  • Exposure to flour dust
  • Exposure to high noise levels
  • Working on or around stairs, ladders, and platforms
